Hello and welcome to the new Kumamoto Earthquake Experience Project (KEEP) site. The project, started in May 2016, aims to collect and convey the experiences of those who experienced the Kumamoto Earthquakes in April 2016. We held a successful workshop in July in Kumamoto, where many people of all nationalities were able to gather and share their stories. Whilst every story was different, many shared the same themes of fear in the aftermath of the earthquake and the solidarity between the foreign and Japanese residents. From the success of that workshop, we as a team have decided to carry on the project and ensure the voice of those affected can be heard across the globe.
The first goal we have set ourselves in achieving that aim is creating this site. On here we shall be sharing the stories that those affected have contributed, pictures that people have taken in the aftermath and of the still present damage in Kumamoto, and information about upcoming events held by KEEP.
We have successfully secured funding to produce a small book to convey our message and plan to launch this early 2017. We also have plans to hold guest lectures throughout Japan and to work with other groups who have experienced natural disasters and wish to spread their message.
We plan to release new stories and photos every week so please follow our site and Facebook page to ensure you receive the latest information about our project as it is released.
Thank you again for visiting our site and I hope you find the information on here of interest.
The KEEP team.
